How Do You Demonstrate Your Performance?
Show your appreciation for your special qualities in order to gain full acceptance from other people.
In the webinar “Convince me that you are alive” I talked about the well-known Romanian actor, Puiu Călinescu. I would like, this time too, to present a moment in his professional life, in order to better highlight the principle I want to express.
The producer of the show “The Professionals”, Eugenia Vodă, asked Puiu Călinescu if his pride in his professional work has ever been hurt. He responded in a certain way, recalling another moment in his acting life:
“I had a kidney removed when I was young. That’s why I sometimes had kidney attacks even on stage. A seizure was never planned. During one of the seizures on stage, I went to my doctor to get a morphine shot. He took off my pants. Inserted the needle. But just as he was inserting the needle, it was my turn to go on stage. So I immediately pulled my pants over the needle, and I went in with the needle in me… and I danced with that needle in me… That’s the job. If you want to do it. If not, let someone else do it.
Can you push the limits of your being from the eventuality of the presence of a constant suffering that seems to extend beyond what surely forms you, to a version of self that you did not consider?
The speed with which you act or implement a decision in your professional life is vital to improving your performance, which in turn depends on the “platform” on which you position and develop your skills. If you are looking to excel in your professional life, then you need to be prepared to play your part and take responsibility for the difficult road to performance.
That is, you need to activate your “payment service” – which shows your psychological ability to accept the difficult times and trials you are subjected to and to continue to play your role at high rates. This “payment service” is a way to test the limits of your own professional performance, and at the same time to push the limits of your own being, both physical and mental, to a higher level of professionalism and efficiency.
Yes, you will also have to pay for this “payment service” if you want to receive white balls from those around you. How? By sacrificing and concentrating on the right moments, by your faith, by the strength of your skills and the dedication you show in the service of your leadership, your ideals and your values. Leadership that does not last over time is continually undergoing a process of deterioration, mainly due to the poor performance of that individual who fails to get close to the efficiency record he has to set in order to benefit from the full support of the people.
The man who has gained the strength to truly believe in his accomplishments, and whom I call a performer, is in a continuous process of evaluating efficiency. Often the world does not understand the decisions of such a man, he cannot discern what he is pursuing by his attitudes and by the actions he initiates in the most difficult moments. The world does not understand the cause and consequences of a performer’s thinking and emotions. What is certain is that he demonstrates his excellent training in a field, his special qualities, integrating into his role through a “calibration” of sacrifices, by an adequate concentration (physical, mental and emotional), regardless of the position he finds himself in.
Can you prove your special qualities by integrating as well as possible into your role, in any situation, without provoking the effect of a revolted feeling?
Do you push the limits of your own being, both physically and mentally, to a higher level of professionalism and efficiency – making sacrifices, accepting compromises in delicate situations? Will you continue on your path to performance when you fail to “drive” excellently?
I ask you, future leader, what is the price you pay for your transformation to a status consistent with your level of aspirations? The Romanian actor, Puiu Călinescu, stepped on stage with a needle in him and danced. He paid the price to maintain a high position, giving his leadership a special shine through his unique ability to deal with his weaknesses, to minimize his pain and discomfort, by showcasing his acting talent and skills in a truly vibrant show.
Building an attitude of awareness of the difficulties and the impact they can have on your mood, so an attitude that keeps you in touch with yourself – is part of the goals of all your guidelines for increasing performance. As a leader you will often feel unbalanced in difficult moments, you will face the tendency to hide your emotions, manifested by a certain duplicity, by a mask, by tailoring a new identity. But in whatever situation you find yourself, you will always have to focus on your most obvious qualities, taking advantage of all the talents you have to play your role flawlessly and succeed.
Have you developed an attitude of awareness of difficulties? How could you define your attitude in difficult times? How will your performance work then? Does your attitude help you make the most of your skills and qualities? How do you test and prove your performance? Do you resort to changing your attitude or do you keep your last strength in a corner, feeding only on hope?
To provoke the effect of a revolted feeling is to interpose a cause conducive to your development in certain situations which might involve a feverish process of consciousness from which emerges, apparently, a new certainty: man cannot feel his action or experience as truly full of sense.
The first thing that is needed in leadership is a small process of conscience to look at the situation with lucidity.
How Do You Demonstrate Your Performance? How did you plan to start your journey towards performance? What actions do you take to excel in your relationship with other people? How much have you developed your ability to accept mistakes or, as the case may be, the shortcomings of your business? How do you test the limits of your professional performance?
