The Ascension Of Essence
True ascension does not consist in reaching a peak, but in the metamorphosis that takes place in the soul of the one who climbs.
Mountain running is not a simple physical movement, but a profound communion between body, mind and mountain – a sacred balance between heaven and earth that transcends the ordinary limits of existence. And my sister, Oana Fântânaru, is used to opening her soul to see everything around her, so that the view, this silent revelation, gives her strength to mobilize better. I would say that nature recognizes her as her daughter, considering the profound resonance between her being and the landscape, beyond any rational logic.
And Oana told me at one point: "In the peaks I find the peace that I always look for within myself."
She maintains that in the silence of the mountains – where time loses its consistency and breathing becomes more than a reflex – a new dimension of understanding is born. A dimension in which every step becomes a release from the past, every breath – an acceptance of the present. And while running you must recognize your vulnerability and strength, so that all of nature recognizes you as a servant of your own inner path, a silent messenger of a higher calling. The mountain does not judge you, it only mirrors you.
In what way can "mobilizing" in front of a landscape be an act of inner rebirth, not just external motivation?
I am reminded of Rainer Maria Rilke's words: "Loneliness is like a rain that falls slowly in the evening and rises from the plains to the ancient sky, which always lets it fall." So is mountain running - an effort that rises to the sky to return, in the soul of the runner, in the form of a revelation. With each kilometer covered, Oana's personal space transforms: what, at first, was just a desire to move becomes a process of purification, of inner recalibration. Running is not running away from anything, but towards everything.
If we look at the climb as Oana does – not as a challenge, but as a dialogue with the mountain – we discover that the external ascent is only a reflection of the internal one. Just as, in the paintings of JMW Turner, light and matter merge into a unitary whole of transcendence, so too the runner becomes part of the landscape, merging with the surrounding elements in a silent harmony. With each step towards the summit, the inner landscape of any runner recomposes itself like a Byzantine fresco, where the gold of spirituality shines through the cracks of physical effort.
How do you maintain the balance between the desire to reach the top and the wisdom of respecting the natural rhythm of ascension?
Oana has always proven that mountain running is a process of becoming, not just a test of endurance. It is a kind of silent initiation, "Ektasuvant Aviusphorn", that subtle ritual of returning to oneself, especially on the level of deep self-knowledge, having as its horizon the point of merging with all that is alive. As the legs know the way, the lungs learn their rhythm, and the mind frees itself from any constraint. Only the spirit understands the meaning of this vertical journey and, thus, manages to glimpse quod vera libertas. It is a moment of absolute truth, of returning to essence, when Oana lets herself be carried away by the natural flow of ascension – just as a painter follows the inner impulse in front of the white canvas.
Moreover, each climbed stone seems more like a letter in a cosmic alphabet, each step – a new seal on the book of becoming, and every runner writes a unique page in the story of his own metamorphosis. Isn't this the true meaning of life? To climb, without fear of the difficult road? Perhaps the peak is not the ultimate goal, but the transformation we experience while reaching it. The greatness of a runner is manifested in the ability to turn the mountain into a mentor, learning to see in physical effort a way to reveal one's own inner strength.
Leadership becomes an act of communion with the forces of nature, in the context where vulnerability and personal strength coexist harmoniously in an experience of self-discovery.
In the ascension of the essence , man and mountain become one. It is that moment when you look down – not to measure the distance traveled, but to see who you have become during the journey. In this mysterious dialogue between limits and freedom, between will and nature, true ascension is born. And in this point of subtle balance, Oana finds her purpose, in accordance with the idea that: "You do not conquer the mountain, but yourself."
At the top, you see not only the horizon, but also the interior. Thus, the view becomes the lens through which you understand who you are.
