The Horizon Of A Winged Vision
Broaden the limits of your own horizon, by contributing to the reconstruction of the mentality and values of those around you.
On June 26, 1963, the U.S. President John Fitzgerald Kennedy was visiting Berlin. A crowd of 120,000 Berliners gathered in front of the Schöneberg Rathaus (City Hall) to hear President Kennedy speech. They began gathering in the square long before he was due to arrive, and when he finally appeared on the podium they gave him an ovation of several minutes.
Kennedy started his speech by saying: "Freedom has many difficulties and democracy is not perfect, but we have never had to put a wall up to keep our people in." In an impassioned speech, the President told them West Berlin was a symbol of freedom in a world threatened by the Cold War. In the end, he uttered the following words, which got famous: "All free men, wherever they may live, are citizens of Berlin, and therefore, as a free man, I take pride in the words, 'Ich bin ein Berliner.'"
Kennedy was the man who made unforgettable the day of June 26th. His speech was punctuated throughout by cheers of approval. Expressing support for the people of the Western enclave in East Germany, he managed to shape their consciousness and generate those values that would help them maintain their motivations. Practically, Kennedy transmitted a new message, a call towards conditioning, towards freedom - thus towards the authentic spiritual growth, individual to each person apart.
Do you strive to create a climate conducive to cultivating your vision by rhetorically appealing to the authority of that virtue of humanity manifested in the form of a deterministic relationship between “overwhelming” and “unforgettable”?
People will accept and follow you only if your philosophy is similar with theirs. It will be difficult to influence those whose beliefs and values are very different from yours. That is why is so important to direct people's beliefs concerning the need to change the mentality that would serve as a "purificatory" of positive energy – that would clarify their thoughts and fulfill their hopes. For this you must use in a positive way your power of persuasion.
Just as at digital cameras, the already registered images can be edited, so the people's mentality and the emotions, on which they support their existence and undertakings - can be easily "edited" if you manage to induce them certain emotions, if you manage to prove them, by giving the appropriate arguments that you are "one of them', that you are made from the same dough - that you have the same affinities, moral values and objectives. By addressing yourself to the spirit of the people, you will beautify their thinking; you will help them regain faith in their potential to recover, to heal themselves of any wounds caused by the past.
I want you to address the following questions:
1. Are you giving your best to create a favorable climate for cultivating your vision? (meaning a warm and positive climate, full of confidence, which is based on fundamental values that underpin your leadership?)
2. Is it the time to lean more carefully on the way, in which you can shape people? This thing means to use those qualities that transmit energy and a new breath of hope that would contribute to the renewal, at changing people's mentality. These qualities can ensure excellence to you, and they cannot be materialized without passion, knowledge, courage, and mastering the art of working with people.
3. How do you use your qualities in order to offer a new horizon to the people?
This question must point out the introspection process, by which you analyze your beliefs and traits that highlight these beliefs.
Do you build your influence on an ideal that arouses people’s desire to pursue a higher calling but goes beyond their choices in terms of their ability to identify with an ideal?
The role of a leader is very similar to that of the host. A host must be nice with all the guests who cross her threshold. She must inspire a comforting feeling, to be able to see something good in everyone, to perceive the essence of each guest and do not ever make comparisons; to intervene in the dialogue between two interlocutors where it is necessary, and sometimes to reconcile the divergent points of view.
The leader, in a similar way, must be able to perceive the potential of those that surrounds him, otherwise, he will fail to induce those constructive and positive emotions, with which to influence their attitude, to control their way of thinking and actions. The leader builds his influence on a single ideal: emotion, emotion, emotion at any cost. People need to see how much you love them before accepting your views and decisions. The emotions represent that ray of light that you have to perceive, is a way towards the inside of every being.
Where it is heading your leadership?
Before reading the rest of the sections of this seminar, whose purpose is the presentation and understanding the changes brought by the leadership, I have to ask you the following question: "Where do you want to be headed your leadership?"
If you find it difficult to glimpse the way that will follow your leadership development, it means that you have not yet created and structured a system of supporting all the people around you, it means that you lack determination in taking those decisions that influence their subsequent evolution, it means that you have not realized the importance of cooperation and mutual support. That is why, I want to mention that in order to raise your level of influence, and you must discern and customize the way towards yourself. Everything starts from you, this is what Kennedy has managed to highlight by his presence and by his surprisingly balanced and emotional speech.
Is the most difficult decision you can make to follow the evolution of a vision that keeps pace with current realities, but does not justify your self-ambition to abandon yourself in the arms of a dream?
The leader must perceive himself and objectively judge his own beliefs before asking from others to follow and support him. In every leader endowed with the skill to understand the hidden motivations of the other people, there is that huge thirst of continuous search for their roots and their own values - for only their correct measurement, appreciation and respect for them – inspires his activities and decisions. In fact, must exist in him an immense desire for self-discovery, lest they disregard the great truths of the art of leadership.
Three basic pillars: values, integrity, attitude
For verifying the validity of your leadership, look objectively your good and weak points. The good points indicate the direction towards which you need to direct yourself when you relieve yourself of any conformism that significantly affects your morale, preventing you to see beyond what you are, and of what you can be. The bad points, highlight the negative assessment that people give to you, they are closely related to the inability of capturing the essence of leadership, which rely on those three pillars: values, integrity, attitude. For making the leap towards excellence, help people to overcome their weaknesses, to overcome all the barriers imposed by an unhealthy thinking and make in such a way that to get them closer to achieving their potential.
Have you created and structured a support system for the all around you? Do you objectively judge your own beliefs before asking from others to follow you?
Just as a mountain climber must be able to watch a mountain peak in order to see how to conquer it, so and you, for developing your leadership according to your expectations, first you need to revive the spirit of the people, that is looking forward for opening a new horizon before them, much wider, which would help them overcome the difficult times through which they have passed, to give them power and strength to go on.
Could your transparency in providing a vibrant vision be the deciding factor in turning their intention to work with you into reality?
Is it the time of great confusion? The pursuit for glory, without expressing your leadership in an original way - by appealing more and more to emotions, it is like getting out the sun from the solar system. Basically, your entire leadership would turn into a big vacuum, in a big "incomprehensible". This is the time of great confusion; it is perhaps the drama of the leadership, or even the beginning of an "end". Are you orienting your leadership towards darkness – by raising the desire of glory above all else, or towards light – by using your emotions in order to serve people and for enlivening their existence? Are you, or not on the good way towards excellence?
Therefore, to cancel the appearance of any failure in terms of leadership, evaluate constantly your progress. Remove any confusion related to the limits beyond which you cannot pass.
How do you perceive your own being?
By the power of well-chosen words, you can influence the thinking and the mentality of those around you. However, the words also express your own level, of the mentality, education and of the values that you promote. Nevertheless, at the same time, the words reveal the horizon on which are placed your ideals, on which are profiling your values.
The horizon that you project, express and share to the other people is one of the pillars on which underlies the entire structure of your psyche, by opening or, conversely, closing your gate to the high standard of excellence, to which every leader wants to access. The horizon is influenced by your little corner of the world, where you are comparing with yourself and depending on the perception of your own being you share it with the others. Therefore, before making the change of others, ask yourself:
Depending on what qualities do you outline your horizon? How do you perceive your own being?
Leadership refers to the human urge to set aside a smaller ideal in order to pursue another ideal that is more important but more difficult to achieve.
The Horizon Of A Winged Vision is set by that man who constantly evaluates his progress and who manages to eliminate any confusion about his own limits. Such a man looks objectively at his strengths and weaknesses, and decides to focus on his ability to change the reality of others.
