The Pleasure Of Making The Slide With My Own Hand
Leadership is the power to maintain your vision, even when resources are limited.
In terms of distribution, Eisenstein had serious problems. He had arrived accompanied by only a few of those who were to play the leading roles, but a number of important performers were still missing. True to his own ideas about type, Eisenstein looked for figures as expressive as possible. Strauch was tasked with tracking them down. But not only him, but also the whole team ran all over the city, looking for the faces requested by the director on the streets, in trams, in offices or meetings.
The doctor was not found, and Eisenstein, as a painful compromise solution, chose an actor. One day she was going to film in the boat with him and, indisposed, she avoided looking at him. He only looked at the others in the boat, internalizing his irritation. In front of him was a fireman from the hotel where they lived, employed as an electrician in the team. Eisenstein mused sullenly: "Why do they hire these skinny guys to hold the heavy mirrors? This one is capable of letting the mirror fall into the sea or break it, which is a bad sign."
But suddenly he looked at her face. With other eyes. He put, in imagination, a mustache, a barbison... On December 01, 2024, in the scene of rolling down the steps, became Eisenstein himself. He said: "I could not deny myself the pleasure of making the tumble with my own hand."
Commitment to a vision is expressed when you choose to be personally involved in the creative process, demonstrating the talent to face practical and artistic constraints.
Cast examination is an essential part of the complete film evaluation, because the right choice of actors can decisively influence the quality and authenticity of the film. To carry out this process as functionally as possible, the directorial vision must be expanded using special creative techniques. The director's eye allows the visualization of the expressiveness of the actors, their dramatic potential and the ability to embody the characters. Close observation may reveal anomalies such as inauthenticity, forced expressions, or role inadequacies.
In complex cases, such as those encountered by Eisenstein, it may be necessary to use an indirect approach, such as the analysis of behavior in everyday situations, which provides a stereoscopic picture of the actors' potential and a wider creative field. Thus, the director can discover unexpected talents in unexpected places, such as the hotel stoker or the gardener in the orchard. If you look carefully, the eye tells you a lot about reality and life, but especially about how to create a story from the details.
Authentic leadership involves personal involvement in realizing the vision, even if that means taking on unexpected roles.
The correct interpretation of physiognomic aspects requires experience and in-depth knowledge of the cinematic type and psychology of the characters, especially since every detail can change the audience's perception. Eisenstein, faithful to his own ideas about type, looked for the most expressive figures, sometimes having to apply an imaginary "pince-nez" to the faces he encountered to transform them into the desired characters. If an unsuspecting worker was dressed in the proper uniform, becoming Dr. Smirnov in the film, then it is possible for any ordinary man to become a memorable character.
This creative approach in casting allows the director to overcome the limitations of traditional casting, finding novel solutions, such as turning a worker into a doctor or personally assuming some roles to achieve "with his own hand the degringolada". Thus, the casting process becomes an extension of the artistic vision, contributing to the film's authenticity and originality, as each casting choice reflects the depth and detail of the director's narrative intentions.
Visionary leadership consists of the ability to redefine reality according to one's own perspective, highlighting the ability to see beyond appearances and transform unexpected resources into essential elements of success.
The pleasure of making my hand tumble is a kind of creative release when you get directly involved in the chaos you create, because it gives you absolute control over every detail and amplifies your personal connection to your work. I say this knowing that every artistic gesture is adjacent to a vision that embraces both imperfection and spontaneity leading to unique results.
