Everything Depends on Who Leads

When Darkness Falls, The Truth Becomes Apparent

In true art, darkness does not obscure the value, but reveals the hidden dimension of the creation.

A certain work in the collection of an art gallery, depicting a copper statue, catches my eye. So, pay attention! I look at the copper statue with the critical eye of a detective who looks not only for visible clues, but also for their hidden meanings. Insistent, penetrating, my gaze captures a series of microscopic imperfections, points lost in the texture of the metal, hidden by the blinding glow of the bulbs in the room. Are they just simple defects or, on the contrary, an encrypted message from the sculptor, a discreet confession left to those who dare to look more closely? Something is putting my intuition and artistic sense to the test.

Searching for that hidden detail that others would easily ignore, I am reminded of "The Shadow Collector" and the Morse code etched into the seemingly banal surface of an object of little importance to the untrained eye. When light abounds, subtle details disappear, drowned in brilliance. But darkness is unforgiving, and then the perspective changes. What will remain of this statue when the light fades?

What do you choose: to contemplate the external brilliance of a work, or to discover the story that sustains it from within?

Before me, this copper piece depicting a naked woman, considered by many to be a masterpiece worthy of dizzying prices at auction, now appears to me in its true essence. As conceived by the artist, devoid of artifice and pretension. But to the average collector, it is just a statue prized for its artist's name and its market value, an "Astralis Verithium Sanctex", that point of intersection between appearance and essence, where material and spirit dispute their primacy.

Indeed, the statue shines impressively under the artificial light of the bulbs, and with the brilliance of an empty dream, but it does not emanate anything from the inner light of authentic creation. It is only a superficial reflection, not an emanation from the depths. With my heart beating fast, I turn off the desk lamp, letting the darkness fall, and I await the revelation that intuition tells me that only the absence of light can bring.

I imagine myself standing next to it, for a moment. The cold touch of the metal conveys a paradox: it is a form that imitates life, but it does not breathe, has no pulse, does not live. After all, it is an empty presence, devoid of sensuality – a rigid outline, shaped without emotion, without life. Yet it seems to be worth a lot at auction. Perhaps its value lies not in what it is, but in what we want to see in it. An illusion of rarity, a price set by an unwritten consensus.

When appearance loses its luster, can you still recognize the essence beyond the illusion of outline?

But my eyes, full of curiosity and contemplation, are not interested in the art market. So I give in to instinct, turn off the lamp and plunge into the darkness. I wait, like an explorer stepping into an unknown cave, hoping to discover something more than the apparently inert rock. What does a work of art hide in the darkness? Only those who dare to turn off the light will find out. In this case, the work remains mute, empty of meaning and story, unable to cross the barrier of the absence of external light. Here too, Rilke's words assail my thoughts: "Beauty is only the beginning of a terror that we can barely bear."

Therefore, terror comes from the revelation of emptiness, of the absence of depth.

And there it is. When the light dies, the statue no longer shines. There are no reflections to clothe it in bright promises. Only the metal remains, bare and honest, unglamorous but authentic. Those who see only the surface would be disappointed. But I, I smile. I smile because I finally see the truth beyond the illusion, I see the same mask of people who seem one thing and are another, I see that discrepancy between image and essence.

And I also know that the true work of art is the one that lives through the story of its creator, not through the ephemeral glow of a superficial presence. If it does not pulsate with life even in the dark, perhaps especially then, it is a sign that its creator has also remained a prisoner of his own superficiality. Unfortunately, a work of art that does not tell a story also has no spiritual echo.

Leadership is manifested through the ability to see beyond the surface glitter, looking for authentic value where others only see market price.

When darkness falls, the truth becomes apparent, namely that not everything that looks beautiful has an interesting story to tell. How does that come about? Well, today I understood that the true value of a work of art lies not in what is seen on the surface, but in the story, intention and experience behind it, elements that resist even when darkness blurs appearances. The essence is revealed, and when all distractions disappear, only the silent dialogue between the creator and the contemplator remains.

Can you distinguish between the ephemeral brilliance of appearances and the authentic light of essential value, in a world obsessed with spectacular effect? When all the lights go out, do you have the courage to see what truly remains?
