In the movie "Meet Joe Black (1998)" Susan Parrish, daughter of the billionaire William Parrish, carries out one last conversation with the Prince of Darkness, in the person of Joe Black. She confesses him with a deep uncertainty her thoughts. She was afraid. Deep down in her soul she knew that Joe is not telling the truth. For, she felt a wave of bitterness in his voice, as an endless pain, void of any energy, and any spiritual load.
Looking at her with pain in his eyes, feeling her inner unrest, Joe recognized his true nature for the first time, under the impulse of a deep conviction, his true self. Suddenly, he was covered by the most pressing feelings: of guilt, concern, sadness and despair, which became true. His first dominant feeling was compassion; the second a huge gap of nothing, as if would not be mattered the day of tomorrow. The will to fight his own conscience, with his temptations, his own identity, with his own weaknesses, was the great attempt that was given to him, which he did not anticipate, and which he could not pass.
At the end of the movie, the Prince of Darkness, in the person of Joe Black, leaves this world, but not before fulfilling his promise: to bring back to life the real Joe, that handsome young man whom Susan met at the café, and with whom she has fallen in love enormously.

Not by thought, but through contemplation and feeling (among people) Joe Black - the Prince of Darkness, was determined to understand, to live similar feelings and a personality closer to that of people. Susan, through her pure soul, by her sensitivity, through her inclination towards spirituality, has aroused in him the sense of justice, of true faith, of true and uplifting humanistic ideas, unleashing a split in his structure of the resistance.
