Self-Analysis
Open the door to the true self, rising to the height of what your conscience dictates.
- Who are you? the great Bill Parrish, founder and president of Parrish Communications Corporation, asked the stranger staying at his home.
- Think of millenniums multiplied by eons, at an infinite scale. That is how much my existence measures, but only recently your business has aroused my interest ! The stranger quietly answered.
- What do you want from me? Why don't you let me live my life the way I want to, as long as I still have to live?
You are the chosen one, Bill… I want you to show me the world, to be my guide. Instead, you will get time. Minutes, days, weeks. I will not go into details. It matters only to keep my interest awake.
Does refusing to sacrifice your own expectations and interests denote your vision for years to come, especially if you acknowledge your weakness in the face of fatality, in the face of a will that transcends you and in front of which you look helpless, overwhelmed, confused?
If you saw the movie “ Meet Joe Black (1998)”, you probably remember the influence that the Prince of Darkness had on Bill Parrish. The normal course of Bill’s life was affected to such an extent, that he endangered his status, function, image, credibility, as well as his relationships with the people around him. Every step he made, every thought that his mind set free, every moment that he lived was an endeavor taken up beyond his own character. He was totally changed. He started to become ineffective in many of his actions – testimonies of the thoughts and feelings of insecurity that possessed him.
Joe Black’s influence on Bill resembled a faceless beast which forwarded inexorably to the frail territory of his conscience, which dictated his behavior, causing him to hide in himself and not disclose to anyone what he was feeling. A nightmare becomes a cruel reality. But no one can guess how many spiritual efforts Bill was making in every moment spent around Joe Black. Anxiety had taken hold of him, being dominated exclusively by his inner world, and less by the important decisions to be taken. He struggled in vain to return quickly to his normal pace, everything seemed hopeless.
Can the presence of a force that stands out in the wrong place add organization to your bold side, or does it give you a skeptical perspective on the life you will face next?
Alternations of Bill’s thoughts and moods represent a wonderful example of psychological self-analysis, by which you can get surprised by the many nuances of human feelings that arise especially in extreme situations. His whole being was completely changed, under Joe Black’s careful and strict control.
But at some point, Bill, contrary to Joe Black’s expectations, took attitude and acted only by his own will, leaving aside any fears and insecurities. He put the foot down and told Joe: “I don’t care what you want ! ”
And I think you would do the same. For no matter how great the influence of others, your conscience can’t operate on “automatic pilot”. Your self knows every corner of your consciousness and opposes all forms of exploitation, all harmful foreign influences. Does your conscience work on “automatic pilot”?
If you want your leadership to preserve its value, then you must continue the long battle to create an entrenchment or an effective antidote against any type of poison. That ruthless, persistent force of the influence that others have on you is precisely the element that can poison your inner structure. If you fail to defend your reserve of moral health and the quality of your ethical values by opposing any harmful ideas, mentalities and practices, you will always depend on others. Do you want to be a prisoner of the influence of others, a robot that executes orders or a free man?
Leadership is the result of a will that stems from an agreement, prior to the proclamation of your choice as a messenger of destiny, between an obscure force that guides you in life and that ostentatious display of your pride in not being in line with the world.
The Self-Analysis is the first step towards the proper functioning of your leadership. It is the most important thing that you must consider if you want to keep your leadership position. Just as a director tries to transform each frame into a perfect picture, you must just as well try to turn your conscience into a tower of support for your entire inner spectrum.
The Self-Analysis is synonymous with your self-analysis, which is very important for a leader who tends if not to perfection, at least not to make mistakes. Someone said that only God is perfect, and compared to Him, we are all more or less imperfect. By this self-analysis (including our own capability), we must come to the conclusion that we don’t make mistakes, that we didn’t fell under harmful influences of those who, willfully or not, want to deflect us from our path – especially of those who offer “rewards” in one way or another, making a kind of barter with your conscience, or who consider that your conscience is the object of a contract of sale.
