At The Intersection Between The Intention, State Of Mind And Process

In the book "Leadership Gold" the founder of EQUIP, John Maxwell, cites Stuart Briscoe, reminding the following story:

A young pastor ministered a ceremony at the funeral of a war veteran. Friends of the deceased military wanted to do something significant at the ceremony, so they asked the pastor to lead them to the coffin, to keep a moment of silence, and to walk them out on the side door.

The young pastor did exactly like that. Even so, there appeared a problem: he has chosen the wrong door. With a "military precision" he led the men into a closet. The whole group had to deal with a quick and disorientated backing in the face of all who participated there.

Do you consider that it is the process of capturing the attention felt at the moment of initiating an action that defines in your authenticity the obtaining of a lasting control over what is happening?

Legs are always directing you there where your thoughts are. To be headed in the wrong direction means to grabble from one place to another like a blind, and this "privilege" it is not allowed to you, as a leader. You are forced to focus at what you do, without wandering your mind because your legs are always following you there where your thoughts are. Leadership is not a kind of rambling, it is not a kind of annulment of reason, and you cannot afford the luxury of disregarding your duty.

It is like luring people to follow you in a direction opposite to that which they expect, which is contrary to the principles of leadership. A single misstep can attract people's disapproval. Little by little they will begin to feel that they deviate from their original intentions. After boarding your "boat” they will wonder whether they made a mistake to follow you.

In leadership there will always exist a centrifugal force that you will have to fight, a force that can disincline you from the common goal linking you with other people. It is much better for them to believe that all your steps actually have a particular purpose, which is meant to be achieved, and to that are heading all your efforts and means, otherwise you risk attracting their antipathy, and losing their support. If you intend to upgrade to a higher level of your evolution, manage correctly the results that people expect from you.

Do you try to make the transition from one situation to another considering that this will easily be associated with a multiplicity of moments that reveal the highest feature of a person’s perception of the outside world?

The highest feature of a person’s perception of the outside world is heterogeneity, meaning an activity that relates different elements by their very nature, a complex determination that relates multiple causal chains and intermediate variables. While leadership is characterized by uniformity, the lack of variations in the planning and conduct of actions.

Leadership it is not just a simple change of location. Once you make a mistake, you cannot turn people out of the way, and to lead them to another one without them not losing, at least for a while, the trust in you. Do you have the courage to assume the role of an indifferent and irresponsible leader?

If you want to know if a leader is successful and effective, look in what direction he leads people. A leader is responsible for people just as he is responsible for himself and his actions.

Advance slowly, little by little, making a break, then putting you on the move again, then, stopping yourself a little, as if each step must be gauged and measured before you move. And, act so honestly that between you and others, there can be no doubt or suspicion.

Leadership is the attempt to cope with a situation from which escape may be difficult (or embarrassing) or in which help may not be accessible, but at one price: not to see yourself completely at your side, the one without any direction, from which you have nothing to learn.

At The Intersection Of Intention, Mood, And Process is that action which produces a result meant to encourage the same action, producing a characteristic called development.

You could not keep people too much time close to you, only if you have noble intentions, if you have a strong state of mind, and if you feel confident and able to take over the reins of an action. Leadership is more a process of anticipating the trajectory that you choose to follow. To manage correctly the relationship with other people, you should focus on finding the best way.

Just as an archaeologist carefully examines a fragment of a ruin, so you must carefully examine the steps proposed to be followed, and at the same time to watch the reactions of others, regarding your performance.

Conclusion: In vain, you have good intentions and magnificent thoughts. If your words are not sustained by facts on their measure, you will grabble on crooked roads, and at the same time unsafe, you will lose the confidence and support of people, remaining all alone to find out the exit of the labyrinth that you have created by yourself.
