Character Favors Success
Constantly maintain your noble character by appealing to those ideals, values, and beliefs that give you stability in your relationships with other people.
Have you heard of the famous writer Russell H. Conwell? Prior to becoming a writer, he was a highly skilled recruiting officer and later became the captain of his own campaign. He took part in many battles and was promoted to the rank of lieutenant-colonel before a life-changing event. Seriously wounded during a Confederate attack in the Kenesaw Mountains, Conwell could not stop his order to make a brave attempt to save him. Unfortunately, trying to save his commander’s life, the young man lost his life. But before he died, he told Conwell about the Christian faith. This incident had such a profound effect on Conwell that he became a Christian.
Eventually, he became a renowned lecturer, covering a wide variety of subjects, and was also the author of 16 books. He believed in the infinite possibilities of mankind, his life being an illustration of this belief. His most famous lecture, “Hectares of Diamonds”, was held more than 6,000 times during his lifetime and remains evidence of his faith in the unlimited potential of man.
Can your ability to cope with all the challenges of destiny represent the adaptive model of self-concept in the coordinates of a vision that is based on following the meaning of life?
People often get the first (wrong) impression about other people, about their beliefs and values, putting their true beliefs and their whole being in the background. That was also the case of Russel H. Conwell, whose firm but still limited convictions could be changed, albeit belatedly, to 180 degrees, only after the death of the young man who tried to save his life.
I ask you, future leader, are you effective in areas where development is needed? Or do you wander like a drunken man, without a sense of direction, unknowingly through life, through the wilderness of your own world of thoughts, desires, feelings, and realities?
This is a tough question that needs to be answered honestly. If the answer is yes, then there is a need for a change, a clarification of thinking, a slow (but firm) shaking of your whole philosophy, renovating those areas of your leadership, coupled with your own character. These areas harden and immobilize your effective concern in interpersonal relationships, or they can diminish your tolerance for any kind of negative influences.
Leadership is like cable television, owning its own content. What you endow with your leadership depends on your inner structure, and what you generate, what you provide, what reaches the people who follow you are those “applications” that allow your analysis, that integrate everything that defines you as a person, as a friend, as a professional. With these applications (values, needs, aspirations) they can connect to you more easily. And this allows you to better understand where you are, what you need and what you can do for them.
Can you make a connection between that explosion of time that changed the path of a life, and the coordinates of events that involve violations of the requirements of the self to have free will in decisions?
Are people on the same side of the barricade as you? Just as any change in blood volume is noticed by receptors that are sensitive to changes in blood pressure, so any change in your own functioning structure is noticed by most people, whose conceptions and ideas about leadership are well regulated by their system, causes them to be on the same side of the barricade with you. Or, on the contrary, can turn them against you.
Understanding the different points of view of other people, as Conwell accelerated his transformation by taking from the philosophy and conceptions of an ordinary man, a dying man, skillfully approaching a new vision of life and the direction to follow, is one of the keys to leadership.
To lean on those ideals, philosophies, points of view and ways of approaching change, with the consent of those around you, as researchers lean on documents to prepare them correctly and completely, and to plaster your own leadership model with a mortar resistant to any kind of moral and emotional wear and tear, that should be your biggest concern.
Endowing your being with those energies, with those virtues that make possible your integration into the “game” desired by other people, your inclusion in the type of personality that contributes to their development, this strengthens your role as a safe guide and defines you as a person compatible with the type of leader they want, through the way they think and act.
Can your character describe a means of experiencing the higher frequencies and dimensions of life in an attempt to change the pattern of consciousness formation?
Leadership is like a ladder: the wider it is, the more it is accepted by a larger number of supporters who have embraced the same concepts and ideals. And the narrower it is, the less it will survive, and it will dissipate into oblivion.
Everyday facts, if you research them carefully, give you new, unsuspected aspects that can have a special impact on your own philosophy and can strengthen your leadership. An analytical spirit, next to which (apparently banal) events do not pass without thorough research, constantly strengthens its leadership and constantly develops its power of influence over others.
It is inherent that the leadership you practice should be oriented (and this is an important optimization factor) towards quality, towards managing and cementing a long-term relationship with people, towards developing and expanding its dimension. This can only be easily done if you cover all those “holes” of inefficiency or superficiality that you, or your subordinates, have made – to see, to supervise, to control all existing forms of regression, or possible risk.
Human character is closely linked to the prolonged maintenance of a proper self-image that can effectively serve the purposes you have set for yourself, under the rule of constraint: all that fulfills you is the fruit of what has taken root in your heart.
Character Favors Success only when your beliefs and attitude in various situations do not conflict with the circumstances that determine what is happening to you. Or as someone pointed out on the internet, character is the totality of the essential and stable qualities that are reflected in the values that you promote and in your attitude towards yourself, others and different aspects of life.
