The Alarm Bell
Increase substantially the source of your personal value, accessing those serious inner funds which support the balance of your own being.
Only Kevin Lomax was able to recognize this great truth: if the game played by himself differs from the game of others, then the risk of "injury" will increase considerably when he does not properly comply with the rules imposed by them.
In fact, Kevin was the newest employee at the law firm “Milton, Chadwick & Waters”, as well as the only one who has the great “honor” to get better acquainted with John Milton, its manager. The latter, like a magician used to exploit the credulity and naivety of those around him and taking advantage of their qualities, was carrying out his vile plan: that of exercising his negative influence on their souls, putting his mark on their entire existence.
If you watched the movie „The Devil's Advocate (1997)”, then you certainly remember the most important and most difficult step that Kevin did to get rid of the negative influence of the “Devil”, in the person of John Milton. He followed his true feelings, irrespective of his own needs and the status he acquired when he concluded the contract with Milton.
In other words, Kevin won the fight against the devil from a higher point of view, through a deliberate intellectual action: he chose to exist only in the plane of the absolute, that is, to cause a rupture in the continuity of his being, a rupture in the dimension of space-time, a rupture in the succession of credible events, and another rupture in the meaningful-significant order.
Can you turn the struggle you are waging against the “force that rules you” into an act of self-affirmation, in which there is a real and an ideal side?
I think that the movie wants to emphasize a very important thing, namely that each of us has two options for shaping his own personality, good and evil, ethical or unethical. Our choice depends on many educational, cultural, social and other factors. But each of us takes the final decision, our conscience being the supreme judge.
Throughout our lives, we can slip on a dangerous slope, voluntarily or involuntarily leaving ourselves manipulated by others (the manipulation techniques being various), by petty interests, but each time, the supreme judge always wide-awake must ring the “alarm bell” and help us return to a self-imposed and freely-accepted normal state. If we slip on a dangerous slope, the climb back is not impossible, but sometimes it is very difficult. But it’s never too late…
To meet all the specific qualities of a leader, you must always watch over your own inner universe, your own way of thinking, your own “arbitrator” – who can remove you from the game with your own destiny, your own being. Learn first to have patience with the spiritual things, follow your true feelings, aware of what is happening around you and the risks involved in aligning yourself to the practice of others, otherwise you risk hurting your own “self”, which will hurt you very much.
To cause a rupture in the continuity of his being means to detach yourself from what once seemed so promising, to detach yourself from what others want for you, and to allow your heart to calm down. On the other hand, to cause a rupture in the meaningful-significant order means not to give in to the pressure of evil on yourself, to fight against evil with the means of good, so that what individualizes you is what you expect to find in yourself when you have not yet healed your remaining “wounds”: that sensitivity that tries to hide behind an imposed hardness.
The act of self-affirmation comprises a real and an ideal side. The real side is given by the way you expose yourself to a new situation from which you have to get out, to discover yourself, to surpass yourself and from which to spread a blessing. And the ideal side is given by what makes you live with a clear conscience; it is about the freedom to choose; it is what makes you a committed person.
The Alarm Bell is the decisive element which determines your success or failure personally and professionally. Its role is to “wake you up” when your orientation senses in professional life fall asleep or are deceived, and to warn you that it’s time to distinguish good from bad and what you know from what you don’t know about others around you.
Just as the tension measuring instrument controls the blood rate and pulses, so your interior defense mechanism against negative influences controls the pace of your life and the pulse of your leadership. In order to achieve the state of self-fulfillment, you need serious interior funds to support your balance, to substantially increase your potential as human being and as leader – the source of your personal value which, at the same time, must ensure you a high level of protection against your spiritual “corrosion”.
Conclusion: A well-defined personality, which is based on ethical principles, will always have a sensible alarm system which will alert you whenever it will detect a danger of deviation from the right path. “The alarm bell” is formed concomitantly with our personality and it is directly related to the path that we consented to follow.
