The Magician (III)
Once you own the technique of playing a part, you will always be able to profit from your craft.
Magic was the only thing I understood very well from the beginning. It happened more than ten years ago, when I watched the cartoon "Sport Billy". I had never heard of Harry Houdini or David Copperfield. Even so, Sport Billy surpassed both in terms of the art of using their resources as a means of influence and control. His "ammunition" consisted in a magic bag, from which he took out all sorts of things, each more interesting and surprising than the other, which helped him in the most difficult moments.
The man I am today, full of secrets, possessed by enormous aspirations, was born then, the moment that I felt what magic can do, when I felt that I am able to take a special place in people's minds if I have the appropriate "tool".
I would become a slave of my passion: the magic, the inclination towards a sincere recognition of forces claimed by a catalyst generically called: the total moment to question what you believe. Since then I have always used it.
Are you congruent with what you transmit through illusion when the relevance of your position towards the absolute is at its maximum?
The matchless director of the show. The magician entered the scene with the bag full of poisonous reptiles, and the show began. He started to twist the snakes, the biggest and the small ones. Any of the five reptiles inspired a terrible fear in the audience, which watched the game with anxiety and fear. Then, with a bell that uttered a sharp and a very annoying sound, the magician provoked the snakes.
At one point, the biggest snake rushed to the smallest one, and bites it, and then he swallowed it. It was like the famous scene from the Bible, when Moses' snake swallowed the snakes of the other magicians. The magician grabbed it by its tail with one hand, and with the other one he gently took it by its neck, in a certain way, that the snake opened its mouth wide. Then, the magician took out from the reptile's mouth a green-blue scarf, forcefully threw it up, and it gently floated down. When it reached the stage floor, it instantly transformed into a dove, which suddenly took flight.
The miracle occurred. The audience applauded with admiration. The Absolute was touched by the ecstasy with which they were conquered by a new temptation. The relevance of my position towards the absolute was at its maximum when I realized that I was dependent on the relationship "high tension – response" that the spectators experienced individually, each, in turn, passing through these moments of suspense and spectacular twists.
Leadership: To what extent does the experience you live produce impact and resonance, when you choose to build a believable image, without artificial interventions?
Do you know your role and your limits of competence? A magician's main merit is that he knows how to interpret his role with an exquisite craftsmanship, with an amazing consistency, and with a remarkable authenticity. The secret of the magic show consists in the depth with which he approaches every performance of magic, directing the attention of the audience with his attitude, his reactions, to something specific.
Just as a magician quickly breaks the ice, making his viewers sit breathless, then get up and applaud his magic number, just like a painter defines objects by color, providing a gradual loss of contours, just like a story helps viewers empathize with the characters - so does the leader, in his "leadership show" stand out both by the depth of his ideas, but also by a perfect mastery in painting his character.
Do you constantly experience the consequence of separating yourself from "Who you are beyond what you think you really are" ?
The consequence of separating yourself from "Who you are beyond what you think you really are?" is a return to the identity that has consecrated you as an individual artist – one who created a unique artwork whose value resides in the expression of the creative activity, not an improvisation of great effect that prolongs the psychic-emotional manipulation of all those who are unsuspecting, the state of trance in which the human being is disconnected from the rational.
The leader is the one who builds "the leadership show" he is the director, screenwriter, producer and performer. He must offer a quality show that is acceptable to his creative qualities.
"The leadership show" is important for a leader's performance, for the level of interpreting his role. If he fails to project into reality people's general wishes and to keep their interest alive, if he doesn't perfectly play his role, with a stunning maturity, demonstrating special interpretative qualities, then his performance won't last long, and the viewers will keep themselves from attending his next performances.
It's not the magician's performance that defines you as a stage performer, but the question you leave open in the minds of others: "What does this mean to you?"
Once you own the technique of interpreting a role, you will always be able of taking advantage of your craft. Just as a magician, once he learned the secrets of magic, he uses them again and again in his performances, all over the world - so the leader, once he learns the way of playing his role, he can play it anywhere and anytime. Consider this, if you want to succeed in leadership.
You're an artist, too. You have ideas and skills adequate enough for you to play the role of a "magician". In leadership, the magic with which you play your part can bring you the success you hoped for. For your abilities to be publicly applauded, you must inspire the show sensation to people. Transform yourself into a strong personality, into a director able to polarize the audience interest. Direct a play where you can skillfully play a big role. Prepare a scene where you can shine. And try to profit as much as you can from your craft.
Leadership can sometimes provide a memorable performance if you manage to master the tension between the role played and the imposed context.
This can be done by a leader, who has adequate skills, abilities and competences, which has the permanent desire to accomplish his art. Once he owns the "technique" of interpreting the role that he imposed himself to play in the "leadership show" he could always benefit from his craft, and he will be publicly applauded.
