The Mirror Of Leadership
Master the meaning of a man’s life and you will be the master of his heart.
At the end of the movie "Tears of the Sun (2003)", Arthur Azuka, son of President Samuel Azuka, approached doctor Kendricks and said to her with a boundless sincerity and admiration:
- I'll never forget it. I'll never forget the sacrifices you made for me, for my people.
Doctor Kendricks was weeping moving tears. She was carefullylistening the boy, keeping the most stoical attitude, while embracing tenderly one of the rescued children. She didn't know exactly what she felt: she seemed independent, free and strong. She would have liked to start a new life. She didn't have any conflict of conscience, because she did what she had to, everything she could to save those of St. Michael mission. Otherwise they would have been killed by the dictatorial regime of general Mustafa Yakubu.
Everything conveyed full satisfaction in her, an amazing silence for those Nigerians that had gathered around her, saved from death, which reminded her the deep love and special affection she bear them. The meaning of their lives was freedom itself.
Is your soul mirrored in the good works that the investigation of a decision variable in which your peak value is returned by the depths of life and death?
She was only with herself at that moment of high spiritual feeling. How much her victory impressed her. She had never proved before such a perfect confidence in her own actions. What would had happened, she was probably asking herself, if she hadn't intervened to support those people? What would have happened if through her will, her tremendous desire, she hadn't had saved the local Nigerians from the hell they were struggling in?
At that moment of lucidity, she truly realized who she really is. She recognized herself, recognized the goodness of her soul. Her saving intervention, the actions she undertook to support those locals all the way through, were like a mirror that reflected her kindness, or rather, I would say that they were a reflection of her great, divine soul. She was seized by a deep moral peace and a boundless gratitude.
Leadership is a mirror where you see yourself, where you can see your own soul. Is a mirror you look your past in, you assess your facts and see how much or how little the world had changed because of you.
Leadership is a mirror that reflects best your personality, your inner state, your attitude and your leadership skills. Is a mirror that reflects all your qualities and defects, and reveals your hidden sides - your bright or dark, happy or sad, positive or negative side. Is a mirror which reflects all your spiritual states, is the mirror which reflects your activity as a leader, after you strained all your powers to fulfill a mission.
To look in the depth of the retrospective mirror of your evolution means to continually understand that what you are experiencing inside is a kind of continuation of what you represent in the lives of others.
Doctor Kendricks'cleverness, kindness, openness and beauty were like a powerful shield created for locals saved from death. They saw in her the nicest and kindest being in the world. After all, there was no doubt for them that she was an angel of God, the help from Heaven who fell in moments of need, to meet their prayers. When they looked at her, they felt they were facing themselves, their past, their deepest roots deeply placed in the unconscient, the source of their entire being.
Leadership is a mirror which reflects both the outer world and the inner world. Is a mirror which reflects people around you, your deeds, your success or failure. Is a mirror in which people find their true human quality. Is a mirror in which, if you know how to look in, you can see everything.
People will always perceive you as a mirror of their souls only when what you are now at the decisional level corresponds to what is happening to you in the reality they deliver in the version of an authentic experience.
The mirror of leadership is the reflection of a leader's entire activity. Crossing the long way to achieve your goal, without absolving yourself of human qualities and emotions is, of course, admirable and gives birth to a great content and special satisfaction inside the leader's soul, and proves that the job well done wasn't in vain.
