The traveler remembered the delightful and ancient custom of children, who put their boots at the hearth’s mouth on Christmas Day, to wait in the dark for who knows what shining gift from the caring fairy. The two spoiled sisters, Eponine and Azelma, had taken care not to miss the chance and each of the put a shoe in the hearth. The fairy, which was their mother, Mrs. Thenardier, had passed by and left a ten dime coin in each shoe.

The man got up and was about to leave, when he saw deep down, in the darkest corner of the hearth, an ugly slipper, of the lowest quality of wood, half broken and filled with ash and dried mud. It was Cosette’s slipper, the little maid. With that moving confidence of children that can always be deceived without ever getting discouraged, Cosette also placed her slipper in the hearth. But in this slipper that was nothing. Then, the stranger reached into his jacket, leaned over, and put a coin into Cosette’s slipper. Great was girl’s joy, in the morning, when she found the gift. For the first time in all these years and work and suffering, too heavy for a child, someone had thought of her. The poor gentle creature, whose heart never opened before then to anyone, felt caressed for the first time.

When Cosette swept the staircase, she would stop, remained nailed in place, forgetting about work and the whole world, busy looking at the star that shined from the bottom of her pocket.*

Your moods act as an isolation factor when you feel constrained to keep your wishes and expectations under control. The rules imposed by the walls of a reality that seems increasingly petty can make you live in the patters of times that seem long gone. Or when you aspire to things you cannot afford. In other words, moods are like deep waters that could inescapably attract within its vortex those who fail to integrate the miraculous into a poor world.

The suffering that makes you weaker in a world without too many stable benchmarks is installed when for some reason you do not want to ask for more than what is owed to you and you feel compelled to say “okay” when you’re afraid you lose everything if you do not accept.

An unexpected happening can give a profound meaning to life when it brings out your good parts in the form of a reflection in “something more than yourself”, in favor of a determined, merciful God that predestines the lives of all men.

Writing the story of your life in such a drama of marginalization is a form of failure, it is like trying to gain wisdom through an experience of recognizing the finitude of an existence preceded by nothingness without the revelation of a transcendence of your condition through union with God.

This is what it means to relate to imaginary sources of fulfillment. And the minute you begin to feel that you are constrained to build your short existence in the principle: "I cannot have", then you will not be able to achieve the sublime in the spirituality of the world in which the Good, the Beautiful and the Truth give their hand and perform miracles. But you begin to be drained by anything beautiful, by any human feeling you own, by any great goal.

Or, your moods can act as a server of command and control when you refuse to receive instructions from an authority of restrictive and punitive order, such as unfavorable external circumstances. This reaction of choice is deeply justified in the case of leaders, because it is not based on prejudice, or in the belief of an absolute opposition.

Are you called to give value to an act of dignity in a context that people have not known before, in terms of the depth of a moral conscience overwhelmed by negative reactions to a social misunderstanding?

Is there something of special nobility in you? Can your capacity of drawing essence from close to the limit experiences satisfy the unspecified requests of people to get something out of life? Do you try to raise the bar of their conscience to that of your entire being, responsible for producing change?

Some lyrics from the internet caught my attention the other day: "The absurd twitching of the soul deeply pierce my being, to the point of finding myself in my own helplessness, or ignorance in finding an answer. And the only weapon I have left is the despair of always finding myself chained inside my own being."

Experienced leaders know that the answers to the initial requests when "negotiating" with life, always exaggerated, begin with a negation of the type "Don’t be naïve" or with the expression "Once upon a time". It is therefore they do not feel bothered to amplify the décor of the inner world of the others, quite the contrary, they are indebted. And, considering the value of what has superior dignity, the accept to convert to true creators of an area of hope, of achievement and fulfillment of the aspirations of the human soul.

The world is not as you want it to be, but it is how you should be in a sublime way, so as to qualify in a contest of the hazard that finds you without your looking for it.

In a way, they themselves relive the moments so painful for the others, feeling the despair of the suffering. It is therefore they practice a form of leadership that places the experience of life in an unexpected context, having a bright aura, that the other people have not yet come to know. And this form of leadership, that transmits with the power of emotions a message of faith, full of meaning: "to want, to believe, to hope and to fight whatever", has a stimulating and mobilizing effect.

It means you’ve come to have that admirable potential, similar to a vulture feeling the strength of its wings, thanks to which you reached a higher level than usual. It means you’ve become aware of a certain sensation of fullness and moral satisfaction, tying yourself spiritually to that area of the world insufficiently brought to light, that depersonalizes the individual and deprives him of humanity, that you managed to explore and, moreover, to conquer.

To be effective in the study of the surrounding world, possessing a certain wisdom that you can only acquire with time, there is need nonetheless also for the knowledge of the inner man that knows that language of the soul, the characteristic of time, to which you feel bound to as if through a backbone of your actions. If you place value in the lives of others, no one can take this from you.

A moral conscience rustled by negative reactions to a social misunderstanding can concretize itself in a mysterious revelation of the soul that only emerges when it feels the need for a craving for a charmed life story.

A story that started with “Once upon a time” can change radically with an urge: “Do not harden your heart, pray without stopping ! ” which leads to the emergence of the hazard.

The Star That Shines From The Bottom Of The Pocket highlights that intrinsic motivation to create something new, mobilizing, giver of hope, that transforms people into a powerful driving force. Do not get stuck into a limit of the acceptability of life, whichever it may be, rather remember that you live in a present that is simultaneously a distant future, but also a distant past.
