The Treasure That Follows Its Owner Everywhere
The image with which you satisfy your soul is the image with which you present yourself to the world.
Teaching paved the way for my assertion in art, responding to the strong passions that delighted my soul, more than the sum of all the other activities that only had to be done for decoration. Now, she seems like a dew for the soul, a force to overcome the difficult moments in life, the sublime manifestation of a latent energy that does not lose its continuity in the relations between people and nature and everything around me. True teaching has as its pivot the very direction of the relationship between separate, decontextualized objects, but from which the accidental, incoherence can be eliminated.
And I never regretted that I bought at a good price (in relation to what it offers) this travel ticket to the future, towards change and innovation, especially because I saw change as a moment of supreme emancipation. On top of that, the simplicity and truthfulness with which I managed to present my art in light and shadow, with qualities of plasticity and suppleness, in the form of a faithful illustration of the reason that guided my spiritual dimension, were easily elevated to the rank of principles of design. It is the same principle of my identification with the Great Work.
Not everyone achieves the performance of relating to a moving, immortal whole, in a state of continuous development and expansion, a whole that challenges you to discover yourself while rediscovering the space in which you live. The same whole, defining by its presence the elements of a mysterious picture in which are met both visual images and numerous metaphors carefully selected, covers everything with that pure, living, stimulating energy, which can only be found in nature.
What could you add to the picture of an existence that oscillates between the illusion of a normalcy that is almost forgotten by the great ones, and the production of a reality that uses matter and transfigures it?
Not everyone is willing to turn a blade of grass into a design based on a holistic vision, tailored to a broader and more serious theme, such as that holy language that “binds people to the land through blood”. Likewise, not everyone manages to move literally and figuratively, in a conquering poetic symbolism, through an overflowing psychological realism, the spectacle of an ordinary life in a book of great value that can provoke, sustain and even change perspective related to the way in which the geometry of an image that is repeated in different moments of other lives is thought of for the future.
Even on a fictional level, I follow the words of Oliver Wendell Holmes: “What seems like the shadow of the night in one mind turns into a swallow’s dress in the other mind.”
It is also the reason why surrealism, narrative insertions and aesthetics bordering on fiction, have taken on a well-defined face in my writings capable of making use of plastic representations. To the same extent, the interaction between the aesthetic ideal, the aesthetic judgment, the feelings and beliefs of aesthetics, still form the whole of my teaching.
Yes. Knowledge of art is the image with which I like to describe myself on the paths of the soul. But here is another reason why the great teaching, with its enigmas contained in a bold, poetic, conquering symbolism, described as a kind of Trinitarian vision. Without triggering a fantastic flight from reality, it can be achieved only by the few, not by the many, by the truly deserving, not by upstarts or those set to it. The following words, written by Gian Paolo Lomazzo many centuries ago, are telling in this regard.
Is your own art able to assist you in the sublime manifestation of an image that pursues your potential that is worth cultivating continuously, without falling into despair or the ridicule of “not doing well”?
“Neither the continual endeavors, nor the long study, nor the sharpness of the mind, nor the thorough readings or theology lessons, nor the help of astrology, nor the geometric figures or the rays of perspective, nor the resemblances to music, nor the arithmetic proportions, architectural elevations, modeling or historical testimonies poetic inventions, nor examples of anatomy, nor understanding of feelings, finally, nor philosophical knowledge or demonstrations will be able to make a man who was not born to be a painter ever attain some mastery in this art, if not endowed from conception with the gift of invention and the grace of painting.
For he alone binds and unites between them with unspeakable grace all the things mentioned above, the one who has this gift from birth. And, on the contrary, he who is born without this gift, no matter how much he may be respected in the profession for his craft and teaching, will never succeed in his works to get rid of that lack of grace which makes them unbearable to all who look upon them. How true this is for both some and for others, it is clear to those who, not being born to be painters, start working and learning imitating the manners of others, those who I cannot catch up too no matter what, not even by far.
While the others, who seem to have been born and made for painting, combining the innate grace and qualities with some teaching and knowledge of the disciplines mentioned, fully succeed in everything they want to do, albeit in different ways, according to their talent, as I have shown before.”
The teaching that honors leadership is this: He who has within himself the faith called science, will make of everything an extension of thought which only art brings to human evolution.
The Treasure That Follows Its Owner Everywhere is that teaching that has been known to Enoch since ancient times, seeking to make his way among the multitude of boulders that imitate natural stone, but will never be able to rise to the rank of diamond. Great science is the compass of a vision that never ceases to reinvent itself.
Even now I feel guilty for not bringing my own art to that level of perfection where criticism becomes impiety, but where the good soul becomes the bearer of artistic qualities: expressiveness, depth and sensitivity. What gives me, however, a hope (which warms my painting in a space of literary expressiveness), making my qualities charged with the tension of creative ideas, is that combining my grace with deep knowledge in other fields, I managed to bring a science called leadership to the rank of art.
