Two Lives And An Angel Caught In The Net Of A Creed
Improve your character, by externalizing all your states of mind under the virtue of your role.
I return for a moment at the beginning of the movie "Vertical Limit (2000)" of which I had discussed in the previous article. Annie, Peter and their father, Royce Garrett, were swinging suspended on a rope to the abrupt slope of the mountain, at about 450 meters high. The rope could no longer hold all three of them.
Royce asks his son to cut the rope. This order raises a deep echo in Peter, who suddenly feels the burden of his unhappiness. The nightmare of his life became a reality for him, a personal experience.
- Listen to me, Peter ! If you do not do this, your sister will die ! Cut the rope ! Cut once ! It does not matter what happens to me ! Cut it ! We have no time ! Cut it ! exclaimed his father full of power and conviction.
A creed that improves the character. These words were meant to supply the courage and the Peter’s spirit of sacrifice, who seemed to remember the first advice that his father shared with him, of that strong leadership principle, of that firm conception about life, of which he must listen now and follow it:
"Peter, you will be hit by the moment when you have to prove your strength of character. A strong character is formed only when the man is accustomed with the soul and the pain. Tighten your whole being and make the step for the grand final: between you and your role, between your emotional Ego and your moral Ego. Be a leader."
Is your condition of a rational man that of bearing facts and consequences that contradict your personal beliefs, to verify and prove that you are sincere in what you believe or do not believe?
Our Lord, in what realm of infinity we place ourselves, your angels? Two lives depended on a single decision, by a single gesture, by a single cause, of a single consciousness. The third one was already decided by fate.
Their father, like a protective angel, holding the power to change his children’s’ feelings and emotions in parental desire, naturally, to protect and ensure their salvation - like an angel that spreads his wings, ready to retreat into immortality in order to leave place for their children to understand and accept the reality of this life, like an angel, who prays for a miracle in his intermediary prayers - he still managed to annihilate in Peter any remorse and any type of regret, and to fill the gap of distrust and weakness that he felt at that time.
Peter impelled by his father's creed - the creed of the ones leading and changing destinies, has strained the powers of his soul and cut the rope - saving his and his sister’s life, at the cost of their father’s life.
Do you always comply with an internal check whose value can be obtained by linking a bad result to the price of a life that expresses itself in one word: "Remorse"?
In one of my webinars, I made a statement: the leader needs an answer, a positive reaction or a negative one, especially during the period of development. His ability to evaluate himself, to think the situations and to cope with them - not only in terms of feelings, but also of the consequences - represents his greatest power.
There must be a permanent internal verification, to which you must comply by yourself, as a leader - and depending on its result to be able and willing to change what does not work in your life, or what you cannot accept. This verification, carried out seriously, has the sole and exclusive purpose of transforming and perfecting your own leadership potential, being the only means, by which to acquire that particular form of self-realization.
Just as a sorcerer, boils for his incantations all the herbs of the earth, the good, and the evil ones, eventually obtaining a beneficial potion - and so you must include in your leadership, in your being, those ingredients with filtering properties of the set of principles, values and conceptions that guide you in your actions (in appropriate quantities) - that would not cause negative reactions from others, even if they do not always respect the highest moral, emotional or professional standards.
The overthrow of values - all the ups and downs that do not know any limits, sometimes are beneficial when getting the acceptance of others.
Do the values you believe in have as a finality the price of life you pay for assuming a guilty role in a drama called "The Test of Devotion"?
In the movie "Vertical Limit (2000)" Royce Garrett tried to induce in his son his quite ambitious conception of leadership, on the role, limits and the purpose of a leader – by filling all his man inside with a new essence, with another perspective, transforming his whole existence.
The self-love should not characterize all the manifestations of a leader. His attitude toward others is a way to control his own development, but also a form of monitoring the way of exercising their power of influence.
The great merit of the leadership consists in his value of a guidance of values, of the actions for achieving the common good, a guidance regarding the philosophy application, and of its way of understanding the human being – therefore, it constitutes a means of reconciliation with yourself and with the world around you.
The determination associated with the ability to make you understandable to people – by appealing to their reason, but also to their feelings - are the "aces" from the sleeve for a leader. In the occurrence of extreme situations, a leader must know how to sacrifice something of himself, his sacrifice being followed by the sacrifice of people, for the whole "gear" to be saved.
The form each virtue takes when tested is the expression of the necessity of sacrifice in difficult situations that few are capable of.
Educating and training people, the awareness of the utmost importance aspects, are essential for having a leadership’s solid foundation. Certainly, Royce Garrett has previously taught Annie and Peter regarding the dangers, about the need of self-sacrifice in difficult situations - because the situation may be opposite, to the end of the rope to be one of the two of them - and then, he would have resorted to the same gesture.
The leader can always "fail". Even so, the gear should be ready to move on, others must take the leader’s place - this moral "training" this way of thinking, of approaching the responsibility and relating – it starts from the childhood, from an early age, and is finalized in the adulthood.
The leader is not an "Atlas" which carry on his back a bunch of puppets, but a man with the strength of character that is willing to sacrifice himself, and to renounce at any pride, for saving a community.
The weakness of character resembles a stone thrown into the sea: you forget to see that feelings of evil are true when the lack of control of your emotions reaches the bottom.
Two lives and an angel caught in the net of a creed reveals that inexhaustible source of morality of the people that are put in the leadership’s service, the source that flows understanding over their souls, and removes the emotional and mental blockages.
The people's mentality changing is a continuous process, in which the leader has a major role. Nevertheless, people must be willing to change themselves and to accept the changing as an active process of individual and collective development.
In contrast to a game of chess, stating "checkmate" when the king can no longer move, and it is ending - in leadership, if the leader falls - others must take his place.
